International Charter School : Teaching in the languages of our community: English, español, Português
EspañolPortuguês
"Thanks to the children, parents, teachers, and leaders of the International Charter School for a wonderful visit. I was so impressed to see a high-quality dual language program where children are learning half their time in English and half their time in either Spanish or Portuguese and are learning about and celebrating many cultures. Talk about a global education! "
-Commissioner Deborah Gist after her visit to ICS.

New Commissioner Deborah Gist is visiting every school district in Rhode Island in her first months as the Commissioner. This summer she was able to visit ICS's summer school program, but was unable to see our dual language programs in action at that time. She returned to ICS last week. During her recent visit, she addressed the students during our whole school Morning Meeting, participated in classroom Morning Meetings in Spanish first grade and Portuguese kindergarten, visited an art class, took a gallery walk, observed a Spanish fifth grade science class, met with our school improvement team, staff and the Parent-Teacher Organization. She heard directly from members of our community about our successes and challenges and was able to see first hand what dual language looks like. She posted the statement above on her Facebook page following her visit.
